ABSTRACT

Objective:To analyze the abnormal vestibular function of Wernicke encephalopathy (WE) and to explore its diagnostic value. Methods:WE patients who visited the Vertigo Center of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University from January 2018 to January 2021 were retrospectively collected. All patients were evaluated by clinical neurology. Before treatment, all patients completed video head impulse test (vHIT) and video nystagmusgraphy (VNG) in addition to cranial magnetic resonance and serum thiamine level examination. Results:All 12 patients had a history of eating defects, including 8 cases of alcoholism. All 12 patients had walking instability, 7 cases had dizziness and 8 cases had oscillopsia. Six cases had ophthalmoplegia. All 12 cases showed positive gaze nystagmus. The pathological saccades of bilateral horizontal semicircular canals were found in 12 patients by vHIT before treatment, but there was only 1 patient showing abnormality in vertical semicircular canals, the difference being statistically significant ( P<0.05). All patients could detect bilateral, horizontal, gaze-evoked nystagmus, including 3 cases with vertical nystagmus, 1 case with abnormal saccade test, 3 cases with abnormal smooth tracking test and 1 case with abnormal optokinetic test. There were abnormalities in the caloric test, including 6 cases of bilateral dysfunction and 2 cases of unilateral dysfunction. Conclusions:WE patients may have abnormal vHIT and bilateral, horizontal, gaze-evoked nystagmus, which is similar to the special abnormal signs of simultaneous damage of both peripheral and central vestibular dysfunction.Vestibular function test is valuable for diagnosis of WE, and it is suitable for patients with a history of nutritional disorders who have dizziness or walking instability and suspected WE.

ABSTRACT

By summarizing the standardized training of dental residents from 2015 in the Department of Prosthodontics of The Fourth Military Medical University, it's found that the traditional training method were less effective because of the great differences in the academic level, clinical practice ability and self-study ability of the residents. We have adopted the stratified-grading teaching mode, which divides the newly enrolled residents into A, B and C levels according to their scores. At the same time, we have divided the training process into three stages: reinforcing the foundation, increasing the various skills of prosthodontics, and improving the ability of self-study. And the stratified and segmented training and assessment has been carried out to finally achieve the ideal teaching effect.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Tissue engineering is a booming subject in recent years, involving skin, cornea, bone, cartilage, tendon and etc. Noticeably, tissue-engineered skin is an issue of concern, which provides an alluring prospect for the repair of skin defects. OBJECTIVE: To overview the latest research progress of tissue-engineered skin. METHODS: A computer-based research of Medline database from 1996 to 2017 was performed, with the English keywords of epidermis, dermis, tissue engineered skin. The latest research status of tissue-engineered skin was summarized in views of epidermal and dermal substitutes, followed by exploring the problems and prospects of tissue-engineered skin. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: A total of 65 literatures were included. Complex skin substitutes include epidermis and dermis, in which hair follicles, sweat glands, sebaceous glands and other cutaneous appendages are absent. Therefore, how to solve above problems is a hotspot issue and major trend in tissue-engineered skin. Tissue-engineered skin aims to construct permanent skin substitutes containing melanocytes and Langerhans cells rapidly. Since the current tissue-engineered skin substitutes can completely replace skin tissues neither in morphology nor in function, in-depth studies are expected in the near future.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of irradiation on the proliferation and differentiation of MC3T3-E1 osteoblastic cells.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>MC3T3-E1 cells were irradiated 24 h after initial seeding. Gamma-radiation was administered at 0, 4, and 8 Gy as single doses by using a 60Co source. Cell proliferation was assessed at days 1, 3, 5, and 7 post-irradiation by using 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenylte-trazolium bromide assay. The collagen secretion of the cells was measured through sirius red staining at day 12 post-irradiation. The expressions of osteogenesis-related genes were assessed through real time fluorescence quantitative polymerase chain reaction at day 16 post-irradiation. The matrix mineralization caused by cells was evaluated through alizarin red staining at day 28 post-irradiation.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The cells exposed to 4 Gy or 8 Gy demonstrated significantly lower proliferation rates compared with the non-irradiated group. Doses of 4 Gy or more significantly inhibited the expressions of osteogenesis-related genes (Osterix and osteocalcin). Collagen secretion and cell mineralization were significantly reduced by the 8 Gy dose.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>60Co gamma-rays dose-dependently suppress the proliferation, collagen secretion, and mineralization of MC3T3-E1 cells. Furthermore, radiation seems to dose-dependently inhibit the expressions of osteogenesis-related genes of the cells.</p>

ABSTRACT

Cartilage is vulnerable to traumatic injury and unable to facilitate a satisfactory healing response due to its poor vascularity and inability to access mesenchymal stem cells.Continuous defects in the joint surfaces cause pain, swelling, and mechanical symptoms that result in functional impairment and limitation of athletic participation.Commonly used repair techniques include marrow stimulation, structural osteo-articular autografts or chondrocyte implantation.Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a concentrate extract of platelets from autologous blood, which is rich in growth factors and other cytokines and provides local environment for tissue regeneration and lends a possible option for the stimulation and acceleration of cartilage regeneration. This review gives summarization on the current state of the use of PRP for cartilage regeneration.

ABSTRACT

A HPLC method was developed for simultaneouly quantitative analyses of aviprin (1), gosferol (2), 3'R-(+)-hamaudol (3), 3'-O-acetylhamaudol (4) and iso-imperatorin (5) in the rhizome of Angelica polymorpha. The analysis was performed at 25 degrees C on an Agilent Eclipse XDB-C18 analytical column (4.6 mm x 250 mm, 5 microm) with the mobile phase of methanol and H2O in gradient elution [55:45 (0 min)-65:35 (25 min)-95:5 (35 min)]. And the flow rate was 1.0 mL min(-1) with the detection wavelengths of 312 nm (1), 306 nm (2), 300 nm (3), 294 nm (4) and 310 nm (5). Consequently, the reqresion equations were Y = 1.81 x 10(3) X + 7.93 x 10(2) (r = 0.9996), Y = 2.49 x 10(3) X - 2.17 x 10(2) (r = 0.9993), Y = 2.02 x 10(3) X - 1.42 x 10(2) (r = 0.9991), Y = 1.57 x 10(3) X - 0.66 x 10(2) (r = 0.999 7), Y = 2.65 x 10(3) X - 1.47 x 10(2) (r = 0.999 6). And the average recoveries were 99.7% (RSD 0.57%), 100.1% (RSD 1.3%), 100.0% (RSD 1.6%), 99.6% (RSD 1.3%), 99.2% (RSD 0.59%), respectively. The precision, repeatability and stability were all consistent with the request of quantitative analysis. The contents of compound 1-5 in A. polymorpha were determined as 0.525%, 0.044%, 0.046%, 0.043%, 0.15%, respectively. Accordingly, this quantitative analysis method is good for the quality control of A. polymorpha.
